Frequently Asked Questions

How much does this cost?

We bill hourly at a fair market value. So the total cost depends on the magnitude of the project(s). If you want to budget prior to meeting with us, approximate your billing rate for senior engineers times anticipated hours.

What is the engagement model?

We offer several options. We believe a monthly, rolling, retainer model is the best value for our customers. This provides a simple way to manage the budget, receive priority treatment, and even benefit from behind-the-scenes R&D during periods without an active project.

However, we also offer hourly consulting and, in some cases, flat-fee arrangements.

How long do projects take?

This depends on the scale of the project and the contract type. Projects can be fast-tracked if needed or intentionally slowed down by the customer to allow time for testing and feedback.

Also note that we intentionally deliver your solutions in an incremental manner to allow for testing along the way. If you decide the solutions delivered are “good enough” prior to full completion, then further development can be halted. Likewise, if you decide additional features are needed after completion, then we will eagerly continue making improvements.

What happens when our requirements change in the middle of the project?

That means progress is being made! Our process is set up with the expectation that customer requirements will evolve throughout the process.

What if I don’t like your solution?

Throughout our design process, we provide you with the work in progress and encourage your users to test and provide feedback. If you like the progress that’s being made along the way, you will like the final product. If you don’t like the progress you are seeing, you can pivot focus, pause work, or stop work completely whenever you want to minimize sunk cost. In short, you'll know if the solution isn't right before investing significant money.

Do I own the deliverables?

Yes. Any software tool we send to you is yours to keep and modify as you see fit.

We don’t have anybody in-house that understands the tools you are building. Will we still be able to use them?

Yes. The tools will be developed with your end user in mind, and we’ll guide you through testing. This will help familiarize your team with the new tools from both the user and developer perspectives. We also provide training and support so you feel confident using them.

Can’t we just develop these tools in-house?

Sure! We are not here to compete with your in-house experts and it’s not uncommon for us to work in collaboration with other developers and “power users”.

I can’t think of specific needs. Can you make suggestions?

Yes. We can evaluate your current process, and propose recommended improvements.

Can you do engineering and design work for us?

Kind of. We do have licensed engineers on staff, and that is a good way for us to learn your process and pain points so we can make recommendations. However, we won’t sign and seal your drawings for permitting. Think of this effort as an immersive way for us to learn your process, make recommendations, and be part of your production along the way.

What version of Revit do you support?

Whatever version you are using.

Will you sign our NDA?

In most cases, yes. We wouldn’t share your secrets with anybody else anyway.

When can we start?
